We all love our dogs and want them to be happy. Most of you will have done some puppy foundations to begin developing their learning skills. At Click-2-Heel we want to help you take your foundations further, growing your dog’s ability to cope with different situations and taking connection with your dog in a new level.

Further your knowledge and learn how to implement step by step training to everyday challenges such as leadwork, recall and confidence building.

What are Essential Life Skills?

Click-to-Heel’s Essential Life Skills programme covers all the skills and behaviours you and your dog need to build a trusting relationship.

We help you develop skills not just behaviours – how to relax when you are relaxing, confident and happy to be handled and how-to behaviour in different environmental situations. Does it matter if your dog sits on first command if it then runs off and knocks over children?

We don’t just train your dog, we train YOU to train your dog, giving you the confidence and assurance to continue with good practice after as well as during the class.

We will discuss and help you with areas that are impacting on day to day life and help you implement good practices. Working with both your strengths and the strengths of your dog to ensure you develop understanding to have the happy well-balanced dog you want in your life.

How does the programme work?

This is our follow-on class from Puppy Foundation and also the enter point for dogs that are new to Click-2-Heel and older than 20 weeks.
We have designed a programme to achieve your training goals with 10 core modules and 5 levels to work through to challenge development of your training skills. It is mixed ability with people working at different levels which we feel inspires and encourages people to make progress.

There’s a one-hour class every week, with a convenient rolling schedule so you can join the program after puppy foundation or after an initial 1-2-1 consultation to meet you both, understand your aspirations, discuss learning theory and introduce you to a consistent method of communication.

There are so many elements that contribute to the long-term development and emotional resilience of your dog. We will work with you to develop the skills and knowledge to help you shape your dog’s personality.

What will I learn?

A fulfilling relationship based on trust will allow your dog to develop in confidence and live life to the full. Think of these classes as you would CPD in the workplace, helping you to help your dog develop both intellectually and emotionally. Giving them the ability to be confident in varying situations and engage and listen through mutual understanding.

Click-to-Heel’s Essential Life Skills classes will:

  • Enhance your existing training skills
  • Enable you to read body language
  • Build on your observation and self-awareness abilities
  • Help to develop and add variety in your training plans
  • Enable you to sharpen your dog’s learning skills
  • Ensure your dog is mentally challenged and fulfilled

A fulfilling relationship based on trust will allow your dog to develop in confidence and live life to the full. Think of these classes as you would CPD in the workplace, helping you to help your dog develop both intellectually and emotionally. Giving them the ability to be confident in varying situations and engage and listen through mutual understanding.

The course will teach you to learn to read your dog’s body language which enables you to:

  • Listen to what your dog is telling you – for more effective communication
  • Build your dog’s confidence – body language is giving us information on how they feel which enables you to change things up and go at their pace
  • Monitor Stress Levels – recognising the signs of stress in your dog and other dogs so you can act to change the environment

We will also show you how to integrate training into your daily routine so you can stop struggling to find time for ‘training sessions’.  All of the training is reward-based, and something you and your dog will enjoy together.
